Introduction

Magazines may not be the dominant force they used to be now that the internet and smartphones exist but for some industries and professionals, it is still a valuable source of customers. These ads were shown in the Community Association Institutes monthly magazines that they distribute to their members.

Every project here was created by me from top to bottom including finding the images, creating the content, and designing the layout. The marketing department and CEO of the company did review these and some slight alterations may have occurred after those meetings.

The Ads

Responsive Web Application

Published in Common Grounds magazine this was to promote the new responsive websites and web application the company had released the month prior. In the industry, online payments and seeing your financial history is one of the most important aspects of any of their applications and we decided to focus on that page because of it.

The Simple Solution

This ad is now a few years old but still a winner in my book. It puts a heavy focus on the complexity of managing multiple properties and still providing excellent customer service, a struggle many in the industry face. The color palette uses the company yellow throughout the graphics, the only things deviating being the logo and the muted greys.

A really interesting decision made during this project was the headlines going right into the paragraph below it. I would not do that today as I feel it hurts readability and understanding. The tag line was created by me specifically for this campaign but it stuck around for about a year after it’s initial inclusion here.

Two New Releases

You may notice that this ad follows a very similar structure to the one above and that was due to the closeness of when they were released as well as the time constraint put on this project. The goal of this project was to announce two big features that the client considered game-changers in the industry.

Human-Centered Software

One of the more recent advertisements displayed in a magazine, this one follows the current decisions made by the company to push the message that we help build communities and have an easy to use solution. This is currently the only ad the company has released where it doesn’t even show the software but instead the results of the product.

Conclusion

Magazine ads are still a necessary part of many adverting campaigns and making sure that you adhere to the strict guidelines established by the magazine company are important. Measurement and color modes must all be honored.

Each of these projects had a very different goal in mind, whether it is to list our the core products, inform prospects of exciting new features, or to increase the overall brand awareness and company goals of building a better, more informed community through technology.
